April 2017 Primitive Skills Weekend Wrap-up
Posted on April 4, 2017
It’s hard to image how this past weekend could have been much better. After some vicious storms on Thursday night and Friday morning, the weather cleared and members and visitors started rolling in to the club from around North and South Carolina to take part in our first three day Primitive Skills Weekend and silent auction. We had some folks who didn’t register since they weren’t shooting and/or just visited for part of the weekend, but we estimate there were between 70 and 80 people there on Saturday alone. The weather was superb, the camaraderie was exceptional and the food was wonderful.
I would like to extend a special “Thank you” to the McRary family for the BBQ dinner Friday night, the Vogt family for a great hot dog/hamburger lunch on Saturday and to Bill and Judy Morris for breakfast both days and a delicious dinner Saturday night. We ate well. And “thank you” to everyone else who contributed to the meals. It was another prime example of the teamwork our club members regularly exhibit.
It was definitely a weekend of sharing and giving. The auction and a few donations yielded the club $1700.00. That will allow us to proceed with new windows in the club house……finally.
Members left on Saturday afternoon with some very, very nice items after the auction due to the skills and generosity of so many of our members. We had a tremendous response from those donating items and those bidding. The skills and talents of our members are impressive and we are grateful for all those who shared and took part in the auction.
One of the very best parts of the weekend was all the sharing of knowledge that transpired…….flint knapping, self bow building, fire starting, atlatl throwing, blow guns, cane arrow crafting……..it was happening night and day.
And no better time to renew old friendships and acquaintances.
We’ll try our best to do it again, but this weekend will be hard to surpass. With so many members and friends contributing to the success, we should be able to have more great weekends. Thank you to all our members, the Appalachian Archery Club, new friends and visitors. Hope to see everyone at future CTA events.
